Chief (Engr.) Chukwuedozie Richard Imah, a prominent community leader from Isuochi in Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia State, has urged women in the area to intensify grassroots mobilisation and reach across political divides to ensure the re-election of Governor Alex Chioma Otti in the 2027 governorship election.
Chief Imah, who is the Onowu (Traditional Prime Minister) of Ndigbo Ejigbo in Lagos State, made the call during a massive grassroots mobilisation programme organised by the Umunneochi chapter of Onu-Ugu Women for Governor Alex Otti at the Umunneochi Local Government Council headquarters, Nkwoagu, Amuda Isuochi.
Speaking shortly after being honoured with the Grand Patron of Umunneochi Onu-Ugu Women for Governor Alex Otti award, the renowned political mobiliser underscored the indispensable role of women in shaping electoral outcomes and strengthening democratic governance.
According to him, women remain the backbone of grassroots political mobilisation across the world, driving voter registration, community engagement and advocacy efforts that deepen democratic participation.
“The role of women in politics is a fundamental driver of democracy and socioeconomic development. As voters, activists, and elected leaders, women broaden the scope of policy considerations and hold governments accountable to marginalized groups. Their participation ensures governance reflects the lived realities of the entire population,” he said.
Chief Imah called on the women to sustain and expand their mobilisation efforts by bringing more women, irrespective of political affiliation, into the movement to secure an overwhelming mandate for Governor Otti in 2027, enabling him to consolidate the developmental gains already recorded across the state.
The United Nations Peace Ambassador commended Governor Otti for what he described as exemplary leadership and unwavering commitment to transforming Abia State through innovative governance, strategic infrastructure renewal and people-centred policies.
He particularly praised the administration’s extensive road rehabilitation and reconstruction projects, noting that they have significantly improved the quality of life of residents while creating a more conducive environment for commerce and investment.
A respected water engineer, Chief Imah, described the ongoing infrastructural transformation across the state as a game-changing development that would yield long-term economic benefits and improve the overall well-being of the people.
He also lauded the Onu-Ugu Women for Governor Alex Otti for successfully mobilising women across Umunneochi in support of the governor’s administration and re-election bid, urging the group to sustain its momentum.
Expressing confidence in the direction of the state, he said the current pace of development would further consolidate Abia’s emergence as a model of good governance, inclusive growth and sustainable development in Nigeria.
Chief Imah expressed appreciation to the women for finding him worthy of the honour of Grand Patron and pledged his unwavering support towards advancing the group’s objectives.
The grassroots mobilisation programme, organised in collaboration with Alpha Abia Arise, also featured the formal presentation of candidates seeking elective offices in the forthcoming polls.
Onu-Ugu Women for Dr. Alex Otti is a political support structure initiated by the wife of the Governor, Her Excellency, Mrs. Priscilla Otti, to mobilise women across Abia State in support of the state government’s policies, programmes and development agenda.
