Chief Sunny Afurobi, Executive Mayor of Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia State, has congratulated children across the council area on the occasion of the 2026 Children’s Day celebration, describing children as the hope and foundation of a better future.
In a goodwill message issued to commemorate the annual event, Afurobi expressed love and appreciation to children in Umunneochi, noting that the celebration serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting and nurturing young people.
According to him, every child in the local government deserves the opportunity to dream, grow and succeed without discrimination, irrespective of background, religion, gender or physical ability.
“Children are the pride of every society and the foundation upon which a stronger and better future is built,” the mayor stated.
He assured residents that his administration remains committed to implementing people-oriented policies and programmes to improve the welfare and development of children by ensuring access to quality education, healthcare, protection, and equal opportunities.
Afurobi stressed that no child in Umunneochi should feel excluded, unheard or forgotten, adding that his government would continue to create an environment where children can thrive in peace, dignity and safety.
The mayor also encouraged children and youths in the area to shun social vices such as drug abuse, cultism, bullying, violence and environmental neglect, warning that such behaviours could destroy destinies and hinder societal progress.
Instead, he urged them to embrace discipline, hard work, kindness, mutual respect and education as pathways to a successful future.
He further called on young people to contribute towards maintaining a peaceful, clean and healthy environment in their communities.
Afurobi expressed confidence in the potential of children in Umunneochi, describing them as future leaders and worthy ambassadors of the local government, Abia State and Nigeria.
He prayed for God’s protection and guidance over every child as they celebrate the 2026 Children’s Day.
