Women across Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia State are set to converge on Friday, August 7, 2026, for the Annual August Meeting, a flagship gathering designed to celebrate, unite and empower women under the theme, “Women of Abia, Empowered to Thrive.”
The event, convened by the Wife of the Executive Mayor of Umunneochi Local Government Area, Architect Mrs. Maureen Afurobi, will hold at the Umunneochi Local Government Headquarters, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
The Wife of the Governor of Abia State, Mrs. Priscilla Chidinma Otti, will grace the occasion as the Mother of the Day and Special Guest of Honour, underscoring the state government’s commitment to women’s empowerment, inclusion and community development.
Also expected at the event are the Executive Mayor of Umunneochi Local Government Area, Chief Sunny Afurobi, and the Member representing Umunneochi State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mathias Ume Nwachi, who will serve as Special Guests of Honour.
According to a statement jointly signed by Architect Mrs. Maureen Afurobi, Chief Host, and Dr. Lady Grace Ibe, Coordinator, the annual gathering is expected to bring together women from diverse groups and associations across the local government.
The organisers have extended invitations to Ndi Ugoeze, Onugu Women for Alex Otti, the Labour Party Women Wing, Abia Arise Women Wing, Abia Women Movement, women associations from all autonomous communities, women religious groups, the Local Government Ladies Association (LOGLA), women farmers, women traders’ associations, wives of the Umuchieze Cattle Dealers Association, nursing mothers, women living with disabilities, female teachers, female health workers, as well as all women in Umunneochi.
They urged participants to attend in large numbers to accord the Wife of the Governor and her entourage a warm and memorable reception during their visit to the local government.
Beyond the formal proceedings, the event promises an engaging blend of education, culture and entertainment as activities lined up include a march-past competition, cultural dance displays, drama presentations and musical performances by indigenous artistes.
The organisers described the gathering as an opportunity for women to celebrate their achievements, strengthen community bonds and contribute to the ongoing success story of women’s development and empowerment in Abia State.
