Hon. Chukwubiko Ephraim Ofoegbu, fondly known across his constituency as “Our Home Boy,” on Monday, May 4, 2026, hosted a well-attended constituency meeting at his residence, where he extended educational support to indigent students through a targeted scholarship scheme.
The highlight of the gathering was the presentation of scholarships to ten carefully selected beneficiaries drawn from Mbala/Achara Ward.
According to the selection committee, the beneficiaries—two each from Mbezi-Umuigwe, Umukparo, Umuobasi, Mbezi-Abuba, and Achara- were chosen strictly based on demonstrated financial need and academic promise, underscoring the programme’s focus on equity and opportunity.
The event attracted a broad cross-section of community leadership and stakeholders, reflecting its significance within the ward.
In attendance were the President Generals of the various community unions, traditional rulers, prime ministers, titled chiefs, and clergy representing multiple Christian denominations. Their presence lent both cultural and moral weight to the initiative, reinforcing its communal acceptance and support.
Addressing the gathering, Hon. Ofoegbu, who is the Councillor representing Mbala/Achara Ward in the Umunneochi Legislative Council, and also holds the traditional title of Ogbuehi Ihudike, dedicated the success of the programme to the leadership of Alex Chioma Otti, Executive Governor of Abia State.

He emphasised that the scholarship initiative aligns with the governor’s broader developmental agenda, particularly in the area of human capital investment.
The councillor further highlighted ongoing strides in infrastructure and social development within Umunneochi, attributing them to the administration’s reform-oriented policies.
His remarks drew enthusiastic applause and chants of support from attendees, many of whom openly expressed their endorsement of the governor’s continued leadership.
In his contribution, Ichie S. B. Okorocha commended the initiative as both timely and impactful, noting that by targeting students from less privileged backgrounds, the scheme addresses a critical gap in access to education.
He praised the transparency of the selection process and lauded Hon. Ofoegbu for what he described as a visionary and compassionate intervention. Offering prayers and blessings, he urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the opportunity.
Beyond the formal proceedings, the atmosphere was marked by a sense of collective pride and renewed optimism. For many attendees, the scholarships represented more than financial assistance—they symbolised responsive leadership and a tangible commitment to grassroots development.
As the event drew to a close, participants departed Hon. Ofoegbu’s compound in high spirits, expressing confidence in the trajectory of governance under Governor Otti and hope for sustained community-focused initiatives in the months ahead.
