Mbala Isuochi, Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia State, was a hub of political mobilisation on Saturday, January 31, 2026, as the Agun’echeibe Youth Movement was formally inaugurated, with a strong message of resilience, loyalty and expansion delivered by its Interim Co-ordinator, Hon. Smart Duke Madu.

In his inaugural address, Madu traced the origins of the movement to 2018, describing it as a student-driven initiative that quickly evolved into a rallying platform for the political vision of Hon. Amobi Ogah, the current member representing Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency.

He explained that the structure later grew into a “three-in-one” platform, housing the Agun’echeibe Students and Young Ladies, thereby broadening its reach and influence among young people.

According to him, the movement played a decisive role during the 2018 primary election, when youths mobilised through strategic engagement, commitment and personal sacrifice to support Ogah’s emergence.

That effort, he said, helped position many members of the movement in key political and party structures, a foundation that accounts for the strong presence of Agun’echeibe youths in Ogah’s current political engagements.

Madu noted that the impact of the movement became more visible during the 2024 and 2025 empowerment programmes championed by Hon. Ogah, where a large proportion of beneficiaries were youths who had been part of the struggle from the beginning.

He said beneficiaries benefited from various empowerment initiatives, including the “one person, one keke” scheme and other livelihood support packages, and added that some members present at the inauguration were graduates who benefited from Ogah’s scholarship scheme, while others were already processing opportunities for international scholarships.

“This is not a China excursion with empty promises,” Madu said, emphasising that the movement’s engagement had produced tangible outcomes rather than mere rhetoric.

He recalled the difficult journey the group endured, from attempts to gain acceptance within the existing political environment in Umunneochi as students, to intimidation and resistance from opposition forces determined to frustrate the movement.

He recounted incidents of physical confrontation during pre-election outings with Hon. Ogah in 2018 at Zone 1 and Umuaku, noting that the group remained steadfast and prevailed despite the odds. Describing the experience as a testimony of divine backing, he said it was a clear case of “a small boy with a big God.”

While acknowledging that some members became exhausted along the way and stepped aside, Madu said he bore no grudges, noting that not everyone could withstand the intense pressures of Umunneochi’s political terrain, particularly the demands of the movement’s vibrant youth-driven social media engagement.

He also disclosed that during the last election that culminated in victory, members of the movement served as ballot securities without receiving any financial compensation from the campaign council, a sacrifice he said was rewarded with success.

The interim coordinator expressed deep appreciation to members who remained steadfast throughout the journey, while warmly welcoming back those who had previously withdrawn but returned, and assured them that their places within the movement remained intact, urging them to recommit fully to the collective vision.

New members were also welcomed and assured of equal rights and responsibilities within the organisation.

With renewed confidence, Madu charged members not to allow intimidation, stressing that the movement now possessed both influence and the understanding of how to deploy it effectively.

He announced the introduction of new strategic offices, including Directors for Artisans and Skills, along with their assistants, as part of efforts to deepen the movement’s reach and positively impact the lives of youths across the constituency.

In a significant announcement, Madu declared that the Agun’echeibe Youth Movement had expanded beyond Umunneochi to Isuikwuato, signalling a broader ambition that extends beyond Abia North, and revealed that plans were underway to inaugurate the Isuikwuato chapter in the near future, expressing confidence that the movement would continue to grow in strength and influence, with the capacity to shape political outcomes within its areas of operation.

He outlined forthcoming programmes and activities, including aggressive membership drives, voter awareness campaigns, a proposed 100,000-man unity walk in support of adopted leaders, skill acquisition initiatives, empowerment programmes, business grants and scholarship schemes.

He expressed appreciation to the Movement’s patrons, including Ambassador Imah Chukwuedozie Richard, Chief Macson Chukwujioke, Chief Obiora Nduka, Barr. Uche Ezeibe, Hon. Eric Udoka, Ambassador Osita Offor, and Comrade Obinna Ogbodo, who contributed to the success of the programme.

The colourful inauguration attracted a wide array of political leaders and stakeholders, underscoring the movement’s growing relevance.

Among those in attendance were the Executive Chairman of Umunneochi Local Government Area, Hon. Sunny Afurobi; Hon. Mathias Nwachi Ume, representing Umunneochi State Constituency; Chief Ike Orika of GODA; Chief Ibe, also known as Ichie Gburugburu, Director-General of Ugoabia; Chief Onyekwere Egenti; the Woman Leader, Mrs. Salome Onwu; former Transition Committee Chairman of Umunneochi LGA, Mrs. Ijeoma Okorie; Hon. David Mbah, Councillor representing Amuda Ward; Hon. Ofoegbu, Councillor for Mbala/Achara Ward; and Hon. Chibuisim Alagor, alongside many other stakeholders.

The inauguration marked a new chapter for the Agun’echeibe Youth Movement, as it formally positioned itself as a formidable youth-driven political force with expanding influence across Abia State.
