The Mayor of Umunneochi Local Government Area, Chief Sunny Afurobi, has called on members of the Labour Party (LP) and residents of the area to sustain their support for Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, and other candidates of the party, citing the administration’s developmental strides across the state.
Chief Afurobi made the call during the Labour Party zonal interactive meeting held at the Council Headquarters, Nkwoagu, where party faithful from across Umunneochi converged in large numbers.
Addressing the gathering, the council boss expressed delight over the impressive turnout of members, describing it as a demonstration of the people’s confidence in the Labour Party. He urged party members to remain steadfast, loyal, and united in support of Governor Otti and the ideals of the party.
According to the Mayor, the Governor’s administration has recorded significant achievements in critical sectors, particularly in Umunneochi Local Government Area, including road infrastructure, healthcare, education, and security.
He noted that the ongoing transformation across Abia State should inspire continued support from the people to ensure the sustainability of the development agenda initiated by Governor Otti.
Chief Afurobi also commended the member representing Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Amobi Godwin Ogah, for what he described as his outstanding legislative performance and commitment to the welfare of his constituents.
He praised the federal lawmaker for sponsoring impactful bills and motions, effectively discharging his oversight responsibilities, and attracting numerous developmental projects to the constituency.
The Mayor particularly lauded Hon. Ogah’s first and second phases of empowerment programmes, describing them as life-changing initiatives that have positively impacted many residents.
Describing Hon. Ogah as a youthful, sagacious and vibrant legislator, Afurobi said the lawmaker’s three years in the National Assembly had justified the confidence reposed in him by the electorate.
He, therefore, appealed to the people of Umunneochi to continue supporting the lawmaker to enable him to attract more democratic dividends to the constituency.
The Mayor equally applauded the member representing Umunneochi State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Mathias Ume, for his quality representation and legislative contributions.
According to him, Hon. Ume has brought his wealth of experience to bear through meaningful legislation and sustained engagement with his constituents, adding that his humility, legislative ingenuity, and commitment to inclusive representation make him deserving of another term in office.
Highlighting achievements recorded by his administration, Chief Afurobi listed the ongoing multi-million-naira piggery project at Amuda Ward, construction of modern evening markets with boreholes and public conveniences in Mbala, Ngodo, Ubahu and Lekwesi communities, cassava farms at Ngodo and Nneato, the Achara Bridge project, the Umuaku Military Operational Base, culvert construction, erosion control works, and several other projects executed across different wards.
He assured residents that his administration would continue to implement people-oriented projects aimed at improving the socio-economic wellbeing of the people.
In his remarks, the member representing Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency, Hon. Amobi Godwin Ogah, thanked the people for their overwhelming support and solidarity, assuring them that no distraction from opposition politicians would deter him from providing quality representation.
He further urged eligible constituents who were yet to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to participate in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, stressing that voting remains the most effective means of electing credible leaders.
Hon. Ogah also cautioned party members against anti-party activities, noting that such actions undermine the unity and progress of the party, and appealed for sustained support for Governor Otti and other Labour Party candidates to guarantee continued development in the constituency.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Labour Party in Umunneochi Local Government Area, Dr. Jude Onwuahanze, thanked Mayor Afurobi, Hon. Ogah, party executives, support groups and stakeholders for attending the interactive session.
He disclosed that subsequent zonal meetings would rotate across the four zones of the local government area as part of efforts to deepen grassroots participation and strengthen the party’s structure.
Among dignitaries at the event were Surveyor Ike Orika, member representing Umunneochi in the Greater Ohafia Development Authority; Dr. Grace Ibe of the Abia State House of Assembly Service Commission; serving and former councillors; Barr. Ezeibe; local government and ward party executives; leaders of support groups; and other stakeholders.
