The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially zoned its governorship ticket for the 2027 election to the Abia Central Senatorial District, in what the party described as a strategic move to uphold equity, justice, and fairness.
The decision was conveyed in a statement issued on Thursday by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Uche Aguoru, who said the zoning arrangement would serve as a guide for party members and prospective aspirants seeking to purchase Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms.
According to the statement, “This is to notify our esteemed members and the general public in Abia State that the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State has zoned its governorship ticket for the forthcoming election to Abia Central Senatorial District.
“This notice serves to guide our members and intending aspirants in the purchase of Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms.”
The party explained that the move aligns with its longstanding commitment to balanced representation among Abia’s three senatorial districts.
It noted that since Nigeria’s return to democratic governance in 1999, Abia State has informally embraced a rotational system among the senatorial zones to foster unity, inclusiveness, and political balance.
“The decision is further premised on the fact that the state chairman of the party hails from Abia North Senatorial District, while Abia South produced the immediate past governor of the state.
“It is, therefore, just and equitable for Abia Central to produce the next governor on the APC platform,” the statement added.
The APC further appealed to aspirants and stakeholders from other senatorial zones to respect the zoning decision in the spirit of sportsmanship, cohesion, and party unity as preparations for the 2027 governorship race gather momentum.
The development is expected to significantly shape the ambitions of potential aspirants from Abia North, including the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, who hails from the zone.
Attempts by our correspondent to obtain reactions from the APC State Chairman, Chijioke Chukwu, and Ben Kalu were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
