The Anambra State Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Charles Anueyiagu, has called for a strategic political alliance between Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso ahead of the 2027 general elections, describing such a partnership as a critical pathway to Nigeria’s rebirth and national renewal.
Speaking during a media briefing in Awka on Thursday, Anueyiagu urged the Obidient and Kwankwasian movements to collapse their separate political structures into a unified platform capable of strengthening their electoral chances and reshaping Nigeria’s political future.
He maintained that merging the two movements would create a formidable coalition by consolidating support bases across the North and South, thereby significantly boosting prospects for electoral victory in 2027.
According to him, both groups are driven by a shared commitment to good governance and should align their efforts in the broader national interest.
“The Obidient and Kwankwasian movements are strong independent bodies serving the same purpose, to give Nigeria good governance,” he said.
Anueyiagu noted that the proposed alliance would mark a decisive shift from what he described as a failed governance structure that has consistently fallen short of Nigerians’ expectations.
Drawing lessons from the 2023 presidential election, he argued that the combined votes secured by Obi and Kwankwaso would form a stronger electoral foundation for future contests.
“In the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi scored over eight million votes, while Rabiu Kwankwaso recorded over one million votes. If combined, the figures present a formidable force,” he said.
He further stated that the experiences and setbacks of the last election have strengthened the determination of supporters and reinforced the need for strategic collaboration.
“The experience of the 2023 election has taught us valuable lessons. I believe that bringing these forces together will help salvage the country and deliver positive results,” he said.
Anueyiagu emphasized that national transformation cannot be achieved through isolated efforts or ethnic divisions, but through collective action by Nigerians united by a common vision for accountable leadership.
“National rebirth is not the responsibility of one tribe but a collective duty. Nigerians must come together to confront hardship, restore accountability, and build a better future,” he added.
