The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, says President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is executing a deliberate masterplan to reposition Kano as Nigeria’s second mega commercial city and the gateway to West Africa.
Speaking in Abuja, Yilwatda described the Federal Government’s investments in rail, gas, power, and road infrastructure as part of a coordinated strategy to restore Kano’s historic role as the economic heartbeat of Northern Nigeria.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is not merely developing Kano; he is redesigning the economic future of Northern Nigeria through Kano,” he said.
Key Projects Driving Kano’s Transformation
- Kaduna–Kano Standard Gauge Railway – set to open this year, linking Kano directly to Abuja and the South.
- Kano–Maradi Rail Line – connecting Kano to Niger Republic and the Sahel trade belt by 2026/2027.
- Kano Metropolitan Rail Service – modernising urban transport and logistics.
- AKK Gas Pipeline – delivering industrial gas to power factories and attract new industries.
- Road Expansion – upgrading the Abuja–Kaduna–Zaria–Kano corridor and building the Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway to link Northern agriculture to Southern ports.
Yilwatda argued that no previous administration has pursued such an integrated development plan for the North, combining rail, pipelines, highways, and industrial power.
“This is vision. This is strategic leadership. This is what President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is delivering,” he declared.
He criticised opposition parties for focusing on “insults and propaganda” instead of offering alternative ideas, insisting that Tinubu’s strategy will industrialise the North, reduce poverty, and secure Nigeria’s economic future.
“History will remember President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the leader who restored Kano to greatness, industrialised the North, and built the infrastructure backbone for Nigeria’s next era of prosperity,” Yilwatda said.
