The Deputy Majority Leader of the Abia State House of Assembly and Member representing Umunneochi State Constituency, Hon. Mathias Ume, has called on students across the state to remain committed to their academic pursuits while lending support to the reform-driven administration of Governor Alex Otti.
Hon. Ume made the appeal while receiving members of the Federation of Umunneochi Students, Abia State University, in his office at the Assembly Complex, and reminded the students that their primary responsibility on campus is academic excellence, urging them to steer clear of negative tendencies, particularly cultism.
The lawmaker emphasised that over his more than two years in office, he has maintained a collaborative approach with other leaders to deliver effective representation to his constituency.
According to him, this has translated into tangible development projects, including the Mbala-Umuaku-Ngodo Road and the Nneato-Umuokegwu-Umualorm Road, and further assured the visiting students of their inclusion in his bursary award scheme as part of ongoing educational support initiatives.
Highlighting the broader impact of the current administration, Hon. Ume enumerated key interventions in the area, noting the renovation of schools and health centres, road reconstruction, and strengthened security architecture through the activities of Operation Crush, which he said has significantly improved safety across the state.
Earlier in his remarks, the President of the Federation of Umunneochi Students, Abia State University, Uturu, Mr. Udechukwu Uzochukwu, explained that the visit was to identify with and encourage the Deputy Majority Leader in his efforts to effectively represent the constituency.
He commended Hon. Ume’s educational support programmes, as well as his motions and bills aimed at enhancing the welfare of the people, and assured both the lawmaker and Governor Otti of the students’ continued support.
Also speaking, a member of the association, Miss Ugochi Ifeanyi, expressed appreciation for the warm reception accorded the delegation and used the opportunity to invite Hon. Ume to the group’s forthcoming 2026 Cultural Day celebration.
