The Executive Mayor of Umunneochi Local Government Area, Chief Sunny Afurobi, has expressed satisfaction with the progress and quality of work on the ongoing multimillion-naira Piggery Farm Project at Umuehihie, Amuda Isuochi, assuring residents that the project will be completed and commissioned within the next few weeks.
During an inspection tour of the site, Mayor Afurobi, accompanied by the President General of Ngodo Town Development Union, Chief Onyekachi Eme, and the Councillor representing Amuda Ward, Hon. David Mba, said the availability of all necessary materials on site had strengthened his confidence that the project would be delivered on schedule.
The Mayor described the Piggery Farm as a modern agricultural hub designed to drive economic growth and improve food security in the local government area.
According to him, the facility will include a standard feed mill, a solar-powered water borehole, an administrative block, a security post, piglet houses, modern pig pens, and other supporting infrastructure.
He added that the agricultural hub would also accommodate a goat farm, guinea fowl farm, grasscutter farm, maggot production unit, and other livestock-related ventures, making it a comprehensive centre for livestock production and agribusiness development.
Mayor Afurobi commended the landowners who voluntarily released their land for the project, describing their gesture as patriotic and development-oriented. He urged other communities to emulate such sacrifices in the interest of sustainable development and collective progress.
The Mayor noted that the project was conceived to create employment opportunities, enhance food security, and provide alternative sources of quality meat for residents of Umunneochi. He encouraged the people to prepare themselves to take advantage of the opportunities the agricultural project would provide.
He further explained that the Piggery Farm would serve as an empowerment centre for unemployed youths and interested residents.
Beneficiaries, he said, would receive free training in modern pig farming and feed production, while successful trainees would be supported with starter packs, including pigs and other essential materials, to establish their own farms and become self-reliant.
In addition, Mayor Afurobi disclosed that modern pig slaughterhouses would be established in strategic communities across the local government to improve meat processing and distribution, particularly in rural areas.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to prudent management of public funds, the Mayor stressed that every project undertaken by his administration is aimed at improving the welfare of the people. He expressed confidence that Umunneochi would become a model for grassroots development by the end of his tenure.
Speaking during the inspection, Chief Onyekachi Eme described the Piggery Farm Project as unprecedented in the history of Umunneochi. He commended Mayor Afurobi for initiating people-oriented projects that would leave lasting legacies for future generations.
Chief Eme noted that Ngodo Ukwu Community had also benefited from the Mayor’s leadership through the establishment of a large-scale cassava farm, ongoing market development, and the proposed Cassava Processing Plant, for which land had already been donated. He prayed for God’s continued guidance and protection for the Mayor as he worked to deliver more dividends of democracy.
Also speaking, Hon. Ezinwa David Mba expressed delight that the long-envisioned Piggery Farm had become a reality. He assured the Mayor of the continued support and solidarity of the people of Amuda, describing the administration as inclusive, people-oriented, and committed to community development.
