The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Abia State, Ukoha Njoku Ukoha, has debunked reports claiming that Governor Alex Otti’s convoy was attacked by gunmen en route to the Sam Mbakwe Airport in Owerri.
In a statement issued on Monday, Njoku explained that the governor was never in harm’s way. He clarified that the incident involved an advance team of three staff members from the Office of the Governor, who were on official duty at the airport.
According to him, the team was ambushed by unidentified gunmen between Umuowa and Ihitte junction, just before the Sam Mbakwe Airport junction in Imo State.
Njoku emphasized that the governor’s convoy was not part of the attack and assured the public that no lives were lost.
His statement read in part:
