In a renewed push to consolidate the growing peace in Umunneochi, the Mayor of Umunneochi Local Government Area, Chief Sunny Afurobi, has pledged deeper collaboration with the newly deployed Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Isuochi Police Division, DSP Amadi, to further enhance security across the council.
Chief Afurobi made the commitment when DSP Amadi paid him a familiarisation visit at the council headquarters in Nkwoagu.
The Mayor noted that Umunneochi, once plagued by kidnapping and other violent crimes, has witnessed remarkable progress in security following Governor Alex Chioma Otti’s strategic interventions.
Central to these efforts, he said, is the Joint Security Taskforce, Operation Crush, whose daily operations, combined with other police and undercover activities, have significantly restored peace and confidence among residents.
He assured the new DPO of his administration’s willingness to maintain seamless synergy with the police and other security agencies.
According to him, his office convenes regular and emergency security meetings with key stakeholders, and DSP Amadi would be fully integrated into these engagements to facilitate the exchange of intelligence and strategies.
The Mayor further stressed the importance of collective responsibility in combating emerging criminal behaviours, especially drug abuse and other harmful activities among youths, and pledged to provide logistics support to the police to ensure effective operations within the local government.
While expressing gratitude to the outgoing DPO, CSP Chukwudi Eze, for his dedication and integrity while in service at Nkwoagu, Chief Afurobi expressed optimism that the strong partnership established would continue with the new DPO.
In his remarks, DSP Amadi said his visit was to formally introduce himself and build rapport with the council leadership, and reaffirmed his commitment to proactive and professional policing, assuring that he would uphold the Nigerian Police Force’s operational standards.
Having previously served in Umunneochi as an Operations Leader, DSP Amadi stated that he is familiar with the terrain and confident in the competence of the officers at the Isuochi Division, adding that his experience would guide his strategies in ensuring sustained peace and comprehensive security.
While pledging to work closely with other security agencies, registered vigilante groups, traditional rulers, and community leaders, DSP Amadi appealed to residents to share credible intelligence with the police, promising confidentiality and prompt action.
He was accompanied on the visit by the Divisional Crime Officer, ASP Omini B., and the Divisional Traffic Officer, Isaiah Sale, who both thanked the Mayor for his warm reception and commended his humility and support for security agencies.
